Hello Folks,
Today we are releasing our first update for Cult Survivors! We have made a massive overhaul to the passive system, reduced game length, change the way enemy scaling works, and more. For a detailed description please read below:
- Passive system overhaul
- The passive system that we initially launched with in the demo was incomplete. We have future-proofed the passive system to better interact with some future additions coming to the game, and also added 10+ new passives. Additional newer passives will be added periodically to the game going forward!
- Game length change
- Based on feedback we have decided to change the game time length to 20 minutes total from 30 minutes total. That means that players will see bosses and waves of enemies faster. This allows players to experience more of the games content overall.
- We plan on including multiple game modes, such as an endless mode, in the future when more enemies and bosses are implemented in game. This means we could re-visit adding the 30 minute mode in the future as a separate mode or making that the default mode.
- Enemy and Boss scaling
- Enemies and Boss scaling has been changed for the initial system we had in place. Initially they scaled based on time passed in game, but we realized that this method was not the best to way to scale. In this update enemies and bosses now scale based on the player’s level, enemies every 7 levels and bosses every 10 levels, this allows the game to stay difficult but also allows players to not fall behind.
Some minor changes:
- Player base speed increased every level by a small amount: This should help with outrunning fast enemies that get faster when they scale as well.
- Getting hit by enemies indicator: Now when you get hit or take damage, a sound will play and the border of the game window will flash.
- Weapons upgrade description are now accurate: When leveling up weapons it display the correct stat upgrades.
- Bosses are now removed for spawn pool if fought: This allows players to fight all the bosses rather than the same ones over and over in a run.
- Main menu button now added to run end: Now you can return to main menu after a run ends!
- XP graphic change: The XP graphic is now a scroll! This felt more cult-y that’s it.
